INTERVIEW WITH JASON ISAACS: About.com at the I, Robot Premiere. July 2004
I heard you're going to be in “Elektra.”
Yes, I am. Oh no, no I’m not. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that. I might
be. I’m not sure.
Okay, you said, “Yes.”
I was there for a while.
What’s your part?
It’s called ‘uncredited.” It’s an uncredited part meaning you don’t get to take
any credit for it (laughing).
Isn’t it funny how things get out on the Internet so
quickly?
(Laughing) I don’t know how the news gets out.
I’m at the beginning of it. I’m Elektra’s last job before the story kicks off.
So you die fairly soon into the movie?
If it was a Bond movie, I’d be the guy that Bond deals with before the title’s
done.
What was your time like on the set?
I was just there for a couple of days. It was fantastic. I was totally
intimidated by Jennifer [Garner]. She’s incredibly fit and strong and supple and
she has all these kind of martial arts and weapons skills. And then there’s me
just eating the donuts (laughing).
Is that really what you were doing?
Yeah, hoping I could get away with it and pretend.
Do you die a quick death?
I can’t tell you too much about it because I’m not even meant to tell you that
I’m in it (laughing). In fact, I might never work again now that I’ve been
talking to you. I’m not in it for very long, let’s put it that way.
What else do you have coming up?
I’ve done a few indies. I’ve done a movie called “Chumscrubber.” This is my year
of being indie [king]. I did a movie called “Tennis, Anyone?” which is about the
celebrity tennis world – I’m a big tennis player. I’m just shooting a movie
called “Nine Lives,” which is nine separate vignettes about women. It’s an
overlapping, sensitive, ensemble thing. It’s just really, really beautiful. Each
scene is one long 15 minute take without cutting. My scene is with Robin
Wright-Penn so I’m pretty excited about that.
How tough was that to film?
It’s tough for the cameraman because he’s holding a steadicam 15 minutes. For
us, it’s like doing a mini-play. It’s a joy. We’ve got such incredible dialogue.
Nothing explodes in it, nobody gets shot. It’s all about people.
I loved your performance in "Passionada." Are we
going to see you in another romantic comedy any time soon?
That’s very kind of you. I don’t know if it’s a romantic comedy but I’m in the
beginning of the first of the season of “The West Wing.” We shot it last year. I
don’t know. If anyone asks me to be in one, I’ll jump on it.
